I had a very, very busy weekend last week… I shot three Giants game in three days. Two games against the Red Sox and one against the rival Dodgers. I also had a bridal shoot in the city which I made time to shoot before and after the Red Sox game on Sunday (… I’ll try to get those pictures up with a blog by Thursday or Friday at the latest). Everything went pretty well except for the fact that the Dodgers game on Monday night seemed to go on all night long… so by the time I got home it was already Tuesday and time to celebrate my birthday! So obviously I’m still a little tired… so rather than write a long blog I figured I’d just post a series of pictures from this weekend’s games and post a blog about the excellent bridal shoot I had tomorrow.

So it was my second time shooting the Oakland A’s vs. the San Francisco Giants this year… only this time they were playing in San Francisco. No one made a diving catch or ran into an outfield wall like they did in the last game I shot, so in terms of shooting standards the game was rather uneventful. The most eventful part of my day came in the later part of the game with the A’s trailing by two runs… but threatening to score with the bases loaded. I don’t remember who popped up to end the inning… but I was shooting inside the Giants dugout when another member of the media screamed at the Giants first baseman, who he was fairly close to, as he tried to make a catch. I’m aware this might not be too big of a deal to anyone outside of the media… but personally I was shocked. We all tend to root for the team we want to win… I’m not trying to say that… but we’re a lot closer to the action than the fans and we’re not supposed to have an influence on who wins or loses the game. Could you imagine if the first baseman would’ve dropped the ball? It might’ve changed the outcome of the game in that situation. I’m surprised the guy didn’t run out and just trip the first baseman as he was trying to make the catch… luckily that didn’t happen though (… although I would’ve loved to have gotten pictures of the scene if that were to happen I must admit).

Two of the best pitchers in the game right now went head-to-head on Sunday when Ubaldo Jimenez and the Colorado Rockies came into town to take on Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants. I was pretty excited to shoot the game because Jimenez has been practically untouchable this year… and he continued with his string of dominance by throwing a shutout in the Rockies 4-0 win over the Giants. I didn’t plan on shooting much else besides the pitchers, but I got lucky in the eighth inning when Giants catcher Bengie Molina hit a shot to deep center. Shooting a long fly ball is a lot like shooting a long pass in football… you have a lot of time to spin your camera in the direction you need to get the shot… all you have to do after that is make sure your settings are correct and that you get your focus on your subject. In this case all I saw was Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez running back and I just followed him for about a second and then he leaped in the air to make a great catch before crashing into the wall. Wish I could’ve been a little closer on the play… but since I was shooting from the third base side I actually had a pretty good angle on the play and got a decent shot.
