I just took a break from editing some wedding photos to pull out a couple of panoramic shots I got from Game 1 of the World Series. It’s been quite an experience so far, … and I’ve already spent a little too much on souvenirs, but it’s all been worth it since it’s not everyday that you get a chance to cover the World Series. I’ll get some action pictures up on here soon… but I still have my fingers crossed that the Giants and Rangers will be coming back to San Francisco for a Game 6 or Game 7 so I can get some celebration photos!

After working 79 hours last week… I finally had a chance to go through and edit some photos from a bridal shoot I had the other week with Dezirae. I was really looking forward to the shoot because Dez is an upbeat girl with a great personality… So I knew we’d have a blast taking pictures once it was time to get going. But I have to admit I was a little worried when we checked in on Dez while she was getting her makeup done… Because I have never seen her so nervous before! Our makeup artist even thought Dez was getting married on the day of the shoot because she was more nervous than most brides are on their actual wedding day. But eventually Dez calmed down and once she put on her wedding dress I was blown away with how good she looked and we were on our way to Lathrop to take some photos at Dell’ Osso Farms (… Special thanks to them for letting us take pictures out there by the way).
We ended up taking a variety of photos and were blessed with a great sunset as well so I was really thankful for that! While I loved the sunset and Dez’s smile, I’m not even sure if the sunset picture was my favorite from the shoot. Originally I was expecting to get a lot of photos with Dez smiling and laughing because that best portrays her personality, but two of my favorite photos are actually when I caught Dez between poses. One occurred when she glanced the other direction while she was sitting in the pumpkin patch, and the other took place when she was standing outside the corn maze. So it was a pleasant surprise to get a few different looks from Dez that night. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with how the shoot went and I’m really happy Dez was such a trooper and withstood some really nasty bug bites while we were out there. (… Thanks Dez!)

It’s no secret that late last night the Giants defeated the Phillies in Game 6 of the NLCS to advance to the World Series! I was out of town shooting a wedding, but I made sure to periodically check my iphone to get updates on the game before I was eventually able to catch the 9th inning on tv to see the Giants celebration. I wasn’t able to douse myself with champagne after the win like the Giants did, but I did do a great deal of cheering because a Giants win also secured a spot for me in the World Series! So Wednesday I will make the trip back out to San Francisco to shoot Game 1 of the matchup between the Giants and Texas Rangers. After shooting three games of the Giants-Phillies series, my only complaint was that I wasn’t able to shoot the Giants final celebration… so my current wish is that the World Series will make it to at least a Game 6 or Game 7 so I can shoot a World Series victory. Can’t wait for the Series to start, but until then… here is a look back at some of my favorite photos from the Giants-Phillies series.

So I’m just getting ready to head out to San Francisco to shoot the Giants in Game 5 of their series against the Phillies, but I thought I’d post a quick blog with pics from Sunday’s “Battle of the Bay” game between the 49ers and the Raiders. The 49ers were in danger of going 0-6 on the year, and after trailing 6-3 at halftime to the Raiders, a lot of the photographers were wondering if we would ever be fortunate enough to witness a touchdown because we were tired of taking photos of field goals all afternoon. Eventually the 49ers threw a touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree and they held on to defeat the Raiders 17-9… thus putting an end to their winless season. Overall I had a pretty decent game after getting rained on in the first half, and I’m hoping this game will jumpstart the 49ers offense because it’s always more exciting to shoot photos when teams are scoring. But anyways… gotta hit the road now… cant wait to shoot the Giants in Game 5 tonight!

Monday night the Giants defeated the Braves to advance to the National League Championship Series. I wish I could’ve been in Atlanta to capture the celebration, but I’ll be back in San Francisco to cover the Giants for games 3, 4, and 5 when they take on the Philadelphia Phillies next week.

I’ve been super busy with weddings as well (which I’ll be making posts on soon)… so I’m going to have to keep this blog short. But here are some photos I got from the first two games of the Giants series with the Braves last week, … along with samples of how some of my photos were used online at the bottom of the page.

On that note, getting photos up in a hurry is even more critical in the playoffs because so many sites on the internet are making “live” updates throughout these games. Luckily for me I didn’t even have to worry about editing photos myself because our editor, Kyle Terada, was grabbing my flashcards from me every two innings or so… And he was loading pics online to our site in a hurry! So he really helped me out a lot. (… Thanks Kyle!) I had an especially good day when the Giants lost the second game to the Braves… As I made the front of ESPN’s page about 4-5 times throughout the game. I wasn’t happy about the outcomes because it resulted in a Giants loss, but at least I was able to make some money in the process.

But despite the Game 2 loss, everything turned out fine and the Giants won the series. It’ll take an upset for the Giants to advance to the World Series, but I’ve got my fingers crossed and will be rooting for the upset! Go Giants!

They just about gave all of their fans a heart attack, but the San Francisco Giants won the National League West Division Title with a win over the San Diego Padres on the last day of the season yesterday.

For anyone who wasn’t aware of the situation, basically the Giants held a three game lead over the Padres going into their series with the Padres on Friday.  All the Giants needed to do was win one game out of three to secure a spot in the playoffs. But… they knew how to make their fans stress because they ended up losing the first two games of the series before eventually pulling out a 3-0 win on Sunday.

A little stress was involved on my end as well, because you want to make sure you get the best celebration shot possible,… and the challenge is that you don’t have more than a few seconds to decide what kind of shot you’re going to get. I knew I was going to try and get a reaction shot of the pitcher first because I was positioned behind first base. I was hoping that the batter would ground out, because if that were to happen all the odds were in my favor that the pitcher would watch his teammate throw the ball to first base, …and if that were to happen, …the pitcher would be looking right at me just before his reaction.

Unfortunately, he struck the batter out.

So I took a couple of shots with my large lens of him reacting and then switched as fast as I could to my smaller lens to get a shot of the team running out to pile on each other near the mound. I think I probably fired off about five photos before the television and video guys started running into my picture. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Pablo Sandoval run to the right of the pile and leap up to celebrate with Juan Uribe, so I shifted to my right and was able to get a couple more photos before all of the television and media crews had surrounded the team.

Looking back on it, I probably would have been better off just shooting the team running out of the dugout to the mound, but I’m still pretty content with the pictures I got.

It’s been a great season for the Giants though… and I’m already excited about shooting them this Thursday when the playoffs begin. Hopefully there will be some more celebrations to come!
