I almost didn’t make it out to the city to cover the San Francisco Giants World Series Victory Parade last Wednesday. Our company already had one photographer covering the event so it was up to me as to whether or not I wanted to fight the crowds and shoot the parade. I was really, … really looking forward to taking a day off. But I didn’t want to be a hypocrite… because it’s like I tell many of the brides that I shoot on their wedding day… “even if you’re tired from all of the activities taking place on the big day, when it’s all said and done you’ll be really happy that you went that extra mile, and took an extra 15 minutes to take an amazing portrait on location somewhere.” So after chatting with my buddy Justin the day before… he basically told me what I was already thinking when he said that it’s not everyday that I get a chance to shoot a ticker-tape parade for a team that hasn’t won a title in 56 years.

So obviously since I’m writing this blog… I made the trip out there,… and I had a blast! The best section of the parade only lasted for about 3-5 minutes, but the time I spent taking pictures as confetti poured onto the streets was indescribable… I’ve never shot anything like it before. The players seemed to be just as excited as the fans when their cable cars drove through the walls of confetti. It’s one of those moments that you wish would never end, and while I know I might not be able to shoot anything like that again for a long time… there is always the hope that I’ll get to do it again next year which has me looking forward to next season already.

I know It seems like old news already… but earlier this week the San Francisco Giants won their first title in 56 years after defeating the Texas Rangers in the 2010 World Series.

It was a great experience covering the World Series. A lot of friends and family, (some who aren’t even Giants fans), were pulling for the Giants during each round of the playoffs with the hope that I could shoot the big event. In the end, my last goal was to shoot the Giants celebrating a win, but they continued their trend of winning the title on the road in Texas so the series never made it back to San Francisco. It was bitter sweet to watch them win on Monday night, … my head sunk after Renteria hit what turned out to be the game-winning home run because I knew that would be all the runs the Giants needed to win the game, because Lincecum was pitching a gem that night.

I can’t remember when the last time was that I saw a team win each playoff series on the road… as the Giants won in Atlanta, Philadelphia, … and finally in Texas. I’m just happy I was there to seem them win the pennant and get one shot of the team celebrating. But who knows… and as they say… there is always next year… and I’m hoping I’ll have some more chances to shoot some playoff baseball soon.
